Total Health Doctors, Whakatane

Total Health Doctors is a friendly family general practice medical centre. We warmly welcome new patients. Enrolling with us offers you better health care with services such as immunisation and smear recalls along with educational clinics for asthma and diabetes We have an extensive range of services and our Health Centre is also home to a range of other health professionals.  We also welcome all visitors to our lovely region. If you have any health needs, please just phone or call in - everyone is welcome.

Booking online

We are excited to be able to offer you an online portal called Manage My Health (MMH) that allows you to:

  • Request repeat scripts 
  • Books appointments with Doctors and Nurses
  • Send a private and confidential message that will be received by GP/Nurse/Admin 
  • Advise PT of changes 
  • Access test results 
  • Receive recalls and appointment reminders

Transferring to us

When transferring from another practice we encourage you to transfer your old records. Our reception staff will provide you with the appropriate form.
We welcome our enrolled patients to make an appointment to see their own doctor, during opening hours. We also have a casual, walk-in service, so you will always be able to see one of our doctors on the same day.

Effective April 2018.
Nurse consultations and services such as wound care (other than ACC). ear wax removal, cervical smears, pregnancy tests, vaccinations, blood pressure checks, electrocardiogram (ECG) and liquid nitrogen treatment may incur additional fees.

  • Repeat prescriptions $16.00
  • Faxed prescriptions $18.00
  • Same day prescriptions $20.00
  • Requested prescription not collected will incur a charge
  • Please note that all fees are due at the time of consultation
  • An administration fee of $5.00 will be applied to all deferred payments - for more information about fees and payment please click here

Since 1 October 2014, a change to our funding means we can offer patients much lower fees.

Dr Nichola Callender


Nichola has joined the team from Ireland. She trained as a doctor in medicine and surgery at St.Barts and the London medical school.Her love for medicine, travel and family resulted in her choosing general practice as a career. She has special interests in paediatrics, women’s health and psychiatry. She enjoy’s being a GP as she has a deep understanding of the importance of families having support on their health/life journeys. Nichola understands the needs of families, being a mum of three children she loves helping other families with their health and wellbeing.

Dr Koriki Love


Koriki graduated from Auckland university in 1993. After his initial hospital training in Whakatāne he moved to Australia to pursue a career in emergency medicine. After 20 years in the emergency department, Koriki retrained in General Practice and is now a fellow of the college.  He has recently moved back to Whakatāne with his wife and young son. Koriki enjoys all aspects of family medicine with an active interest in male, child and Māori health.  Outside of work Riki loves music, playing his guitar, bush walking and spending time with his whānau.

Dr Graham Irving


Graham is an experienced GP with a special interest in minor surgery and teaching.  He qualified in South Africa and worked as a GP in Levin for 27 years prior to moving to the area.  He enjoys golf, tennis, walking, dancing, skiing, body surfing and sailing – he still has to learn to fish!

Dr Kuo Yau Tan


Kuo Yau joins us from a Primary Care Senior Resident position in Singapore.  Through a heavy patient workload and Singapore’s multiracial society, Dr Tan has developed sensitivity to working with patients from diverse backgrounds.  He has a strong clinical knowledge developed through his work in primary, urgent and family care and has a graduate diploma in family medicine.

Dr Sangita Bharatia


Sangita specialises in general practice and is vocationally as such.  Working in Australia and Auckland before coming to work at Whakatane Hospital in 2005, she is an experienced GP with a particular interest  in Maori health and working with children and youth.  She enjoys music, socialising with friends and school and community activities.

Simply ask at reception or download our enrolment form below. Complete all the sections and send back to us by email, post, fax or bring it in with you.  You may need to bring in an original ID document (e.g. Drivers’ License, Birth Certificate, Passport) before your first visit - call our team to find out.

You do not need to be a patient with us to be seen by one of our medical team.If you’re a visitor to the region and need medical care, you’re also welcome. Please call our friendly team for an appointment.  All visitors and casual patients, please be aware that extra charges can apply when you are not enrolled.
